SmallCorp is a well-established, family-owned, privately held company with approximately 40 employees, started in 1972. We manufacture museum-quality picture frames and exhibit cases, and many, many other items used in conservation and exhibition by museums, galleries, artists, and photographers.  Most of our manufacturing is done in-house. Art Conservation Panel & Deck Department Assembler/Finisher

Employment Type:

Full-time, 8-hour shift, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM Monday through Friday, with overtime sometimes available. There may be some flexibility with start and end times.

Compensation:

$20 to $25.00 per hour with competitive benefits 

Job Description:

In this position, you will have the opportunity to learn to assemble and finish museum-quality archival mounting panels and decks for the display of art and artifacts. Each piece is unique and custom made to our customers’ specifications.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Panel and Deck fabricator is responsible for the cutting, joining, and finishing materials to support, store, and display museum artifacts for primarily museums, artists, and conservators. The use of power and hand tools to cut aluminum sheets, aluminum honeycomb, paper, cloth, acrylic, wood, and composite sheets is required. This position requires precision and attention to detail.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Must be able to use a tape measure to a 1/32. No exceptions!
  • Must be able to read and comprehend shop drawings and written instructions.
  • Must ensure that quality standards are continually and consistently met.
  • Math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing are required.
  • Visual ability to see close up, see color, and adjust focus, is key!

An ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. This position works with dirtier materials such as aluminum and glue as well as working with clean materials like linen and paper and requires swapping between them regularly. Both a visible and a physical inspection of finished products, with attention to detail, is a must.

The duties of this job require standing, walking, and reaching for objects of various weights. The employee must:

  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch. The work can be physically demanding so a pre-employment physical will be required.

Custom Woodworker

Employment Type:

Compensation:

$22 to $28.00 per hour with competitive benefits 

Job Description:

The Custom Wood Fabricator is responsible for the full custom fabrication of display cases or other wood related projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain knowledge base of various materials and glues used in department.
  • Verify drawings/blueprints and spreadsheets. Figure out dimensions – measures, shapes, adjusts, trims, and sands parts and joints to make parts fit snugly.
  • Make picture frame strainers and cleats and construct display cases.
  • Determine method and sequence of assembling parts.
  • Glue process – apply glue, inserts, dowels or screws to fasten subassemblies together and form complete unit. Lamination as well.
  • Install hardware in subassemblies or in completed units.
  • Operate jointer, double miter saw and V-nailer, sliding table saw, power feed saw, and beam saw.
  • Program and operate CNC router (will train if a good fit otherwise)
  • Spray or roll paint on cases and decks as needed.
  • Inspect and verify materials and assemblies for correct dimensions and acceptable quality.
  • Accurately record job duration information on Time Sheets. This is essential for proper costing and job pricing.
  • Interact with other departments on multi-media projects.
  • Help in other departments when needed.
  • Perform basic set up and preventative maintenance of tools, machinery, or other equipment used in department.
  • Always use safe work practices and follow safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with appropriate SmallCorp staff to accomplish business goals.
  • Follow all department and SmallCorp policies and procedures.
  • Perform other similar duties as required (by responsibility or necessity) or as requested.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • PREFFERED EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE: High school plus some additional programing, courses or equivalent.
  • PREFFERED EXPERIENCE: 2 to 5 + years custom wood fabrication.
  • Must be able to use a tape measure accurately to a 1/32. Use math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing – decimals and fractions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic instructions provided in written, verbal and/or diagram format.
  • The ability to pass the demonstrative aptitude small scale dry fit test w/ blueprint reading as part of the interview process.
