Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you have samples?

A: Yes. We sell corner samples of our frames, support panels and display covers. (A display rack for the frame corner samples is available.) Backing board samples and a powdercoat color chart are also available.

Q: What is your standard fitting allowance?

A: Our frames are made with a 1/16" allowance (1/32" on each side).

Q: Can I get a wood frame without the holes in the sides?

A: Yes. You need to request "no holes" when you place your order.

Q: What is a powdercoat finish?

A: Powdercoat is a hard industrial finish for aluminum that is available in many colors. It is applied as a powder and then baked until the coating is cured. It is an excellent choice for traveling exhibits because of its durability.

Q: What makes powdercoat a finish of choice in preservation framing?

A: It is a hard durable finish that is completely cured once it is baked, and has no residual solvents to out-gas. It is available in a range of grays and blacks as well as other colors.

Q: Do you carry backing board larger than 40 x 60?

A: We have archival polypropylene in 48" x 96" sheets of 4MM and 6MM thicknesses. The 8MM archival polypropylene is 60" x 120". We also stock single wall archival corrugated in sizes up to 48" x 96".

Q: What is abrasion resistant acrylic? Is it the same as scratch resistant?

A: Abrasion resistant acrylic is clear acrylic with a thin coating applied to one or both surfaces. This prevents the mild scratching caused by objects rubbing up against the acrylic . It will not prevent deep scratches where the thin coating and acrylic is cut into by a hard object. This cannot be repaired.

Q: What can be used to clean an acrylic box frame before fitting?

A: A mild acrylic cleaner, such as Brillianize, and a soft cloth. Do not use glass cleaner or paper towels. A solution of 2 drops of mild dish liquid to a quart of water can also be used.

Q: What is your minimum order?

A: There is no minimum order on frames, displays or support panels. There is however, a minimum charge for each item. Archival polypropylene is sold by the sheet or by the carton.

Q: What is a strainer? Does every frame come with one?

A: A strainer is a basswood "frame" that is stapled together. It fits into the back of our welded aluminum, brass, wood and acrylic box frames. It is used to hold the glazing, matboard, artwork and backing board into the frame and where the customer installs their hanging hardware. In an acrylic box frame, the customer may attach backing board or wrap it with fabric. In addition to its usage in the frame, a strainer is always included to give added support in shipping.

Q: Do you ship by UPS?

A: Yes, unless the carton is larger than UPS will handle. Then it is shipped via common carrier. Please finalize delivery details at time of order.

Q: Do you do "custom" work?

A: All our frames and display cases are custom made to your dimensions from our standard designs. We will be happy to discuss "custom" work with you using your drawings or a design created by us for your project.

Q: Can I pay by credit card?

A: Yes, we accept VISA, MasterCard or American Express.
